As Vega Sicilia notes, Alión is crafted from a careful selection of distinct terroirs located in the best parts of the Ribera del Duero appellation. Crafted entirely from Tempranillo, the wine hails from 70 hectares of vines located in Padilla de Duero, Valbuena de Duero, and Pesquera de Duero that average 40 years in age. In the cellar, the wine ferments in wooden tanks prior to aging for 12 to 14 months in new French oak barrels followed by an additional 15 months in bottle prior to release. Intense and fleshy, the wine’s flavors of black cherry, crushed stones, and coffee-reminiscent undertones lead to a long and persistent finish. Cellaring capacity: Up to 20 years.
