Les Rugiens to Pommard is what Les Perrières is to Meursault – in addition to being one of the most recognizable and beloved crus, it’s also a premier cru that often garners unofficial grand cru status by collectors and critics alike. The best vines are cultivated in the lower portion of the cru (Les Rugiens-Bas), which is where Domaine de Montille’s 1.02 hectares are found. On the palate, the wine is complex, profound, and marked by a distinct iron quality that is undeniably Les Rugiens. This is a powerful red from the Côte de Beaune that merits time and patience, but is certainly worth the wait.
